The Rat Race Begins

Unfortunately I don't have any interesting pictures for you right now but I just wanted to let everyone know what we are up to. Doug and I started back to school two weeks ago. It's been a little overwhelming for both of us. This morning I was seriously doubting my decision to go back to school. But I'm sure that's just a passing emotion...hopefully. I am also studying to take the GRE in two weeks, which I'm pretty nervous about since my math skills are nil. Doug is working very hard putting in 35-40 hours at work and then also taking three classes. I don't know how he does it. He also decided last week that he's going to start an exercise plan. So on Friday he got up and ran at 5:30 am before he went to work. YAY Doug!
One other new thing for us is that we have started a new diet that will hopefully help me with a couple of health issues I've been struggling with for awhile. The diet involves eating LOTS of vegetables and fruit, more fish, less red meat, and practically no refined flour, sugar or rice. It hasn't been as difficult for me as I thought it would be since I have a huge sweet tooth. Maybe after awhile I will be able to ease into eating a few sweets :) But it's mostly just common sense healthy eating and I've kind of wanted to eat more like this for awhile so I'm glad I came across this diet. Fortunately there is no restriction on my dairy intake because I don't think I would be able to handle that.
So life is generally good for us. Mostly we are just trying to stay balanced without getting stressed out while maintaining some semblance of order in our home. Well I guess Doug doesn't get stressed out so mostly I'm trying to not get stressed out. Anyway, we love you all! And I'll try to get some interesting pictures together soon.

Mimi,
Good luck on the diet. I know it will get tough but worth it. I have seen great results of this diet. I love you and miss you so much. Please let me know if you need anything.
Love ya

So what's the diet? You two sound so busy. Do you ever cross paths day or night?

Ann,

The diet I'm on is supposed to help with fertility. It's based on research done by the Nurses' Health Study. Obviously there's no guarantee but in the study they noticed lifestyle and eating trends of women who got pregnant and women who didn't. So the diet is based on that. So far so good except yesterday I caved twice, once for cookies and once for ice cream. Other than that I've been doing well. The diet is also helping me with the symptoms of hypoglycemia I've been having. It helps keep my blood sugar level so that can't be a bad thing. And yes Doug and I do get to see each other occasionally. Mostly it's just Mondays and Wednesdays that are bad but I think we are adjusting to it.
